Phillies Players Might Be Mad at Jose Alvarado Per Insider

The Philadelphia Phillies came into the 2025 MLB season with a great chance to win the World Series. With a great pitching staff and a great lineup, the only concern was the bullpen.

However, after Jose Alvarado was suspended for 80 games due to PED use, the complexion of the season shifted drastically. Inside the Phillies' clubhouse, there is frustration.

In a segment from Nothing Personal with David Samson, Samson says, "But what goes on inside that clubhouse is anger. Anger at the player, not sympathy."

With the suspension of Alvarado taking him out for 80 games, including the postseason, it's a devastating blow to the Phillies.

Samson believes that inside the Phillies clubhouse, there is anger pointed towards Alvarado for taking a performance-enhancing drug.

Bryce Harper and Matt Strahm, along with Kyle Schwarber have all made comments on Alvarado's suspension. None have expressed anger at Alvarado, but behind closed doors, the Phillies feelings might be different.

While there is speculation over whether Alvarado knew he was taking PEDs or not, the reason for his taking of the drug was to try and lose weight.

Samson also brought up how Phillies players could've believed Alvarado's weight loss excuse, "Not looking at him [Alvarado] without clothes on, getting a shower, and saying 'Oh I get it.' Nope, none of that."

It's a crude image, but the point Samson is portraying is one of frustration within the Phillies clubhouse. Going from having a dominant reliever, to losing him for the duration of the postseason and the next 80 games is a huge blow to the Phillies organization.

Alvarado getting suspended has put the Phillies in a precarious situation, and it wouldn't be a surprise if parts of the clubhouse were angry with Alvarado. John Kruk, on the day Alvarado's suspension was announced, expressed his frustration with Alvarado getting suspended.

The onus is on the player, and Alvarado getting suspended is a major blow to the Phillies for a litany of reasons. It hurts their postseason chances in 2025, it creates a hole on the roster that needs to be filled come seasons end, and it sparks anger inside the clubhouse.

Despite Samson's comments, there isn't any player that's come forward and confronted Alvarado about it. That's a good thing, as turning one's back on a fellow player could be a bad look, especially with a teammate who was as beloved as Alvarado.
