Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner is in his third season with the organization after signing an 11-year, $300 million contract ahead of the 2023 season.

The 32-year-old veteran has continued to prove he’s worth such a hefty price, as Turner remains a major offensive threat at the top of the batting order. He’s posted an NL-leading .305 batting average, .356 on-base percentage, .815 OPS, 15 home runs and 36 stolen bases over 140 games this year.

The most impressive part of his season, though, has been the huge step forward he’s taken defensively, now grading out as one of the best shortstops in the league and one of the most underrated as well (snubbed from the All-Star Game in 2025).

Rob Thomson Shares Trea Turner Injury Update on Sunday

Unfortunately, Turner has been sidelined with a right hamstring strain after leaving a game against the Miami Marlins on September 7. However, he has already resumed baseball activities, and on Sunday took another stride forward as he is scheduled to begin tee work and has continued to play the field.

Phillies manager Rob Thomson admitted before Sunday’s series finale against the Kansas City Royals, “I hate to say it, but it looks like he’s ahead of schedule. You hear that all the time, but no, he’s doing really well.” (h/t Tim Kelly of On Pattinson)

This is an exciting development for Philadelphia, as they are on the verge of clinching the NL East and the team’s main focus now is getting fully healthy for a deep postseason run.

The Phillies have been playing shorthanded in the infield with All-Star third baseman Alec Bohm currently on the injured list, and Turner’s backup Edmundo Sosa sidelined as well with a groin issue. With Turner ahead of schedule on his rehab, it appears a regular season return is certainly a possibility.
