It's always sunny in the City of Brotherly Love. The reigning Super Bowl champion Eagles are about to start their OTAs, and the Philadelphia Phillies are rolling.
Sitting at 34-19, the Phillies have the best winning percentage in baseball and the second-most wins in baseball behind the 35-20 Detroit Tigers, who have played two more games.
Many have lauded Phillies manager Rob Thomson for this hot start. Thomson took over as manager in 2022 after Joe Girardi was fired, and led the Phillies to the World Series in the fall and the NLCS in 2023.
Thomson took advantage of the Phillies' hot start heading into Memorial Day weekend.
Thomson threw a Memorial Day celebration for the whole team on the Phillies' off-day Monday in his suburban home, which the team definitely deserves with their MLB-best record.
"I can only imagine Rob Thomson's house, yesterday, when all of Philly showed up," said MLB Network host Mark DeRosa.
The Phillies lost on Sunday to the Athletics by a score of 5-4, but still won their third straight series, winning nine of 10 against the Pirates, Rockies and A's.
Thomson has a wealth of talent to draw from, with Kyle Schwarber making noise in his contract year (.974 OPS) and Trea Turner on pace to become the first Phillies player since Jimmy Rollins in 2007 to record 200 hits in a year.
There's a lot to celebrate if you're affiliated with the Phillies, and it's always a feel-good story when a team gets together away from the clubhouse to bond with one another.
