Philadelphia Phillies right-handed starter Aaron Nola is playing in his age-32 MLB season after making his debut with the team in 2015.
Drafted seventh overall by Philadelphia in the 2014 MLB Draft, he’s built a solid career thus far over eleven major-league seasons as an important piece of the Phillies rotation, which has featured aces and veterans alike.
Nola earned his first All-Star selection in 2018 and has finished among the top ten in Cy Young Award voting three times, underscoring his consistent efficiency.
In 2019, he signed a seven-year, $172 million extension to remain with the Phillies, a deal that carries him through the 2030 season and reflects the club’s long-term commitment to its homegrown ace.
Currently on the 60-day injured list with a right-ribcage stress fracture—a setback on the heels of an earlier ankle sprain—Nola is expected to miss time through the All-Star break, with a targeted return in the season’s second half.
Upon officially reaching ten full years of MLB service time, the Phillies took to X to honor him writing, “Think we can safely speak for everyone in the organization when we say it’s been an absolute pleasure to have you around all these years, Nols. Congratulations, and here’s to many, many more!”

This season, even in healthy outings, Nola has struggled to a 1–7 record with a 6.16 ERA over nine starts—numbers well below his career norms.
He remains best known for October excellence, however: in ten postseason starts he’s recorded 58 strikeouts and delivered clutch performances, most memorably during Philadelphia’s 2022 World Series run.
As the Phillies eye another playoff push, they’ll look for Nola to return to form in the second half to help guide them to another postseason trip.
