Phillies Slugger Describes Club's Offensive Explosion to End Losing Streak

The Philly offense finally woke up from its slumber Saturday afternoon, using small ball to their advantage in a 10-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs. The win snapped a five-game skid dating back to Sunday and put the Phillies back over .500.

After the game, one of their most-consistent guys at getting on base broke down what changed from the past week of dismay:

"If you look at overall what we're doing, we've been getting guys on base. We've been coming up in positions to score runs," Kyle Schwarber told FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal. "It just feels like the big hit eluded us. Today we just kept grinding through it and got to that point, put some good swings on balls and got the results."

The Phillies' designated hitter was spot on with that assessment. As a team, the Phils were a combined 15-for-49 (.306) with runners in scoring position during their losing streak. On Saturday, they went 7-for-13 (.538). Their team on-base percentage rose to .340, third-best in MLB.

It's a jolt the Fightins sorely needed to take down the far-and-away No. 1 scoring team in the majors.

Schwarber and Bryce Harper both drove in a pair of runs with two outs. Despite it being against their M.O., only one run was scored on a homer hit by Max Kepler. The other nine came around on balls that stayed below Wrigley Field's ivy walls.

Phillies fans widely won't complain about how they got those runs - they'll just hope that Schwarbs and Co. saved some offense for the series finale. It's another game on national TV, with a 7:10 P.M. EST first pitch on ESPN. Aaron Nola has his own losing streak to snap, while his offense faces off against fellow veteran Jameson Taillon.
