Phillies Slugger Hall Continues to Impress in Spring Training

One of the most unexpected success stories for the Philadelphia Phillies last season, was first baseman Darick Hall. The 6' 4"-230 pound beast went yard nine times in his first season in the Majors. In just 41 games, he notched 34 hits, including eight doubles and 16 RBI.

Hall's welcome to the Big Leagues was nothing short of spectacular as he crushed two balls, hitting two home runs for his first two hits in his MLB career. He spent the rest of the season fighting for playing time with the main roster, filling in at designated hitter when it was vacated. Hall has continued to impress down in Clearwater, Fla. as he continues to fight for a spot on the 26-man roster.

Playing up to standard.

Hall has been as impressive as ever early in MLB Spring Training. Per usual, he has continued to crush the baseball, hitting a double and a 435-foot home run against the Minnesota Twins. If there's anything you can count on, it's Hall hitting dingers. While in the minors, Hall has hit 126 home runs, including a walk-off thriller with the Iron Pigs.

The 27-year-old started his MLB career fairly late. However, he was an instant difference-maker for the Phillies. He provided a much needed spark for Philadelphia, delivering an absurd amount of production in his limited playing time. His unexpected success appeared to boost the morale of the ball club, increasing the energy amongst the rest of the players. It was a match made in heaven between Hall and the Phillies when they needed a true hitter at the DH position.

It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows.

Despite a large quantity of success in the regular season, Hall couldn't seem to get it going during the postseason. It was a mighty Red October for the Phillies, but it wasn't Hall's contributions that led them there. Granted, he only played in three games, Hall went a combined 0-for-7 with four strikeouts in three losses.

These last three appearances for Hall were what fans were left with heading into the offseason. Seeing instant success in Spring Training is refreshing, letting everyone know that "Long Ball Hall" is still in full effect. Even with an improved lineup, Hall could be very useful in the playoffs. Another year of experience under his belt should greatly aid him and an increase in performance is highly probable.
