The Phillies have an update on a rehabbing utility man who could make his way back to the bigs soon.
After playing four games with Philly's Single-A team in Clearwater, Weston Wilson has been moved up to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, per a team announcement. Wilson is batting second in today’s game and playing second base.
The 30-year-old Wilson missed all of spring training after suffering a left oblique strain right at the start of camp. He could be a valuable addition to the club once they determine he's ready.
During his stint with Clearwater, Wilson hit 1/10 with four walks and three strikeouts. He was perfect in the field, playing three games in left and another at third base. Most importantly, he didn't re-aggravate his injury.
Wilson didn't waste any time making an impact with the IronPigs, as he tripled to right field in his first at-bat down in Gwinnett (top-left clip):

Wilson hit .284 with 11 extra base hits and 10 RBI last season, mainly in the second half. He collected a cycle against the Washington Nationals on August 15th, becoming the first Phillies rookie to ever do so.
Most of his success came against lefties, whom he hit .341 off of. With the Phillies already loaded with left-handed bats - including Brandon Marsh and Bryson Stott, who can't hit opposing lefties well - they could use someone else from the other side.
If Wilson does do well enough to be promoted, it would likely mean the end of Kody Clemens in a Phillies uniform. Clemens has taken just four trips to the plate this year - all as a pinch hitter - and has not played the field at all.
In the event he doesn't look good enough, Wilson has one minor league option remaining, meaning Philly can keep him in Triple-A for insurance. But with his ability to play several positions, including left field, and being a better fit on paper than Clemens, it shouldn't come to that.
