Pirates Acquire Minor League Pitcher for Recently DFA’d Colin Selby

After he was designated for assignment on Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Pirates have traded right-handed pitcher Colin Selby to the Kansas City Royals. In exchange, the Pirates have acquired left-handed pitching prospect Connor Oliver.

Selby was DFA’d by the Pirates to make room on the roster for Joey Bart, who was acquired from the San Francisco Giants.

Selby made his major-league debut last season with the Pirates and went on to make 21 appearances. The right-hander went 2-2 with a 9.00 ERA and struck out 30 batters in 24 innings pitched.

The Pirates drafted Selby in the 16th round in 2018 out of Randolph-Macon College. Selby became just the third player from Randolph-Macon to reach the big leagues.

Oliver, 22, was selected by the Royals in the 17th round of last year’s draft from Miami University of Ohio. After he was selected, he made one scoreless appearance in the Arizona Complex League.
