The Pittsburgh Pirates’ season took a hit when Konnor Griffin sustained a finger injury. Now, there is a Griffin injury update, as the man himself has indicated when he will return, according to Pirates beat writer Kevin Gorman.

Griffin was direct when addressing his return. Significantly, he has missed two months with this injury. The Pirates were 44-45 on July 5, 2026. Since he has been out, they have gone 24-27. Although it didn’t have a major impact, he might still have helped their lineup.

The Pirates have monitored Griffin’s injury since he sustained it. Notably, they have been very careful in their attempts to stay competitive. Pittsburgh went into today’s action trailing the final wildcard spot by 5.5 games with 22 games left in the season. Although the playoffs are unlikely, the team will still be happy to get Griffin back.

Griffin is batting .276 with five home runs, 25 RBIs, and 35 runs with 20 stolen bases. If he had stayed healthy, he could have stolen 55 bases. While Griffin has been progressing in his recovery, there has been no actual news until now. Even if there is little chance of postseason play, acquiring their talented rookie will benefit the team.

Griffin can get some reps over the last few weeks of the season. Assuming the Pirates miss the playoffs, he can still showcase his skills and make a case for a solid second season. Earlier this season, Griffin had a forearm injury, which was another nagging ailment he dealt with before his finger injury. If Griffin can stay healthy, he can make some headway in his return.
