Bubba Chandler, the Pirates’ top-ranked prospect and last week’s International League Player of the Week, continues to mow through the opposition in Triple-A. The flamethrowing right-hander struck out 11 batters in six scoreless innings, doing so on a clean 93 pitches and helping Indianapolis to a 3-2 win over St. Paul.
Altoona lost 8-2 to the Bowie Baysox in an altogether pitiful performance, with a home run from shortstop Mike Jarvis—in what has otherwise been a rocky, injury-marred season for the 2021 sixth-round pick—among the lone bright spots.
Carlson Reed, a newly-anointed member of the Pirates’ Top 30 prospects per MLB Pipeline, got the hook after two turns through the order, striking out five batters on 83 pitches across 4.1 innings. Termarr Johnson, meanwhile, saw his August slump continue with another 0-for-4 night.
Bradenton struggled to a 6-3 loss, although Yordany De Los Santos picked up the first extra base hit of his affiliate ball career.
Here’s a look at the noteworthy performances amongst Pirates prospects on Friday night.
