Tommy Pham is setting sail with the Pittsburgh Pirates, leaving behind his stints with the Chicago White Sox, Cardinals, and Royals last season for a fresh start with his tenth big league organization and a $4 million contract. This one-year deal, carrying an extra $250,000 in incentives, sees the seasoned outfielder join a team that’s been relatively quiet in the offseason.

Pham, who is turning 37 soon, brings not just his bat but also a wealth of experience to Pittsburgh. After a mixed season that saw him start with a minor-league deal with the White Sox, Pham finished strong with the Kansas City Royals, proving he’s still a vital asset, especially against left-handed pitchers. His .266 batting average over 70 games with the Sox highlights Pham’s resilience and adaptability.

Pham’s journey last season was anything but typical. After leaving Chicago at the trade deadline, he briefly joined the St. Louis Cardinals, only to be placed on waivers as their playoff dreams dimmed. Yet, this did not deter him. Joining the Royals, Pham played a key role in pushing the team to its first postseason in a decade, showcasing his skill as a crucial platoon player.

This signing marks Pittsburgh's venture into strengthening its roster alongside notable signings such as Andrew McCutchen and infielder Adam Frazier. With Pham on board, the Pirates outfield—projected to feature talents like Oneil Cruz, McCutchen, and Bryan Reynolds—gains an additional layer of depth.
