Pitcher Cubs Traded to Astros for Kyle Tucker Gets Brutal Health Announcement

Looking back at the Chicago Cubs trade with the Houston Astros for Kyle Tucker, it was an easy decision. Sure, Isaac Paredes, Hayden Wesneski, and Cam Smith all have the potential to be outstanding big league players at some point, and Paredes has already proven that multiple times, but Tucker is one of the top players in Major League Baseball and should only get better.

According to Space City Home Network's Todd Kalas, there’s some bad news about Wesneski, a right-hander who was part of that trade.

According to Kalas, he revealed on the broadcast during their game against the Kansas City Royals that he could be out for the remainder of the season.

“For the local guys, they were anticipating big seasons out of both Spencer Arrighetti and Hayden Wesneski,” Kalas said. “Arrighetti can still fulfill that as he is slowly coming back from his injury, he is obviously not gonna to be out for the season, but Hayden Wesneski is likely to be out for the season. We'll find out more as we go along.”

Wesneski has been dealing with an elbow injury, which is never a good sign. With players getting injured more than ever in MLB, it's typically a recipe for disaster once the elbow is mentioned.

Whether it's Tommy John or something a bit less remains to be seen, but hopefully it isn't too long of a recovery process if this ends up being the case.

Regardless, the Cubs should continue to trade for top players. Not that Tucker or any other player can't get injured, but it's never a guarantee that guys work out the way they were expected to.
