Pitcher Lance Lynn retires from baseball while sitting on the couch

Lance Lynn has been a Major League Baseball player for 13 seasons. At 37 years old, though, and looking ahead at the grind trying to get out there for season 14 — currently as a free agent — it's fitting that Lynn decided to call it quits while sitting on the couch.

"Baseball season is upon us and I'm right here on the couch and that is where I'm gonna stay," Lynn said on his wife's podcast. "I am officially retiring from baseball right here, right now."

That's one way to do it, and it's honestly a cool way to do it. Not only is he retiring while sitting on a couch, but now he'll be watching baseball from the couch just like the rest of us.

It's kind of poetic, not to mention the fact that it got some attention for his wife's podcast, known as the "Dymin in the Rough" podcast.

Lynn is perhaps best known for his time with the St. Louis Cardinals. He was there from 2011 to 2017 and also spent last season with the team.

He also spent time with the Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers.

He was named an All-Star two times and boasted a 3.74 ERA in 364 games with 340 starts.

A righty from Marion, Indiana, Lynn also pitched in 28 postseason games, largely with the Cardinals. His postseason ERA was 5.64, but that is bloated because of a 13.50 postseason ERA in one game with the Dodgers in 2023 and a 12.75 ERA with one game with the White Sox in 2021.

In 10 postseason games pitched for the Cardinals in 2011 when they won the World Series, he posted a 3.27 ERA and 1.36 WHIP in 11 innings pitched.
