The Pittsburgh Pirates are the hottest team in Major League Baseball. They won their sixth consecutive game yesterday against the St. Louis Cardinals. They are coming off back-to-back three-game sweeps against the New York Mets and St. Louis Cardinals. A few of the players that have propelled Pittsburgh to this hot streak are Ke’Bryan Hayes, Bryan Reynolds, and David Bednar. Hayes is in the midst of an 11-game hitting streak, Reynolds is hitting .357 over his last 10 games, and Bednar was named the National League Reliever of the Month for his performance in June.
Pittsburgh has done everything right over the last week. The team’s pitching staff has tossed 31 consecutive scoreless innings. That is their longest streak since June 2015, when they had 35 straight scoreless frames. The offense of the Pirates has also played well as of late. They have outscored their opponents 43-4 over their last six games. Will the Pittsburgh Pirates continue winning games?

Even with their winning streak, the Pirates are in last place in the National League Central. Pittsburgh’s offense has struggled this season. They are 24th in batting average, 29th in home runs, and 26th in runs scored. No Pirates player has stood out on offense this year.
Pittsburgh’s pitching staff has been the stronger part of their squad. They are seventh in ERA, fifth in opposing batting average, and fourth in WHIP. Starting Pitcher Paul Skenes has been just as good in his second season in Major League Baseball. He is second in the league in ERA, 10th in strikeouts, and sixth in WHIP.
The Pittsburgh Pirates will look to celebrate Independence Day with their seventh straight win when they visit the Seattle Mariners this afternoon. Even though a postseason appearance may not be in Pittsburgh’s future, it has been a week to remember for the ballclub.
