Pittsburgh Pirates Offense Finally Scores 5+ Runs
Imagn Images

Even though the Pittsburgh Pirates lost 8-5 on Thursday to the Milwaukee Brewers, they accomplished something for the first time in a month. It was the first time the Pirates had scored 4+ runs since April 22 against the Los Angeles Angels.

Usurpingly, the month of offensive woes has sent the Pirates careening down the standings. They are 8-19 over the last month. Will the Pittsburgh Pirates be able to get on track before it is too late?

Pittsburgh Pirates Season Summary

It has been another disappointing season for the Pirates. They are in last place in the National League Central with a 17-34 record. As has been the issue for the Pittsburgh Pirates in recent years, their offense has been putrid. They are 29th in batting average, 29th in home runs, and last in the league in runs scored by a wide margin. Center Fielder Oneil Cruz is leading the league in runs scored. No other Pirates player has stood out at the plate this year.

Pittsburgh’s pitching staff has been mediocre. They are 19th in the league in ERA, 15th in opposing batting average, and 16th in WHIP. Starting Pitcher Paul Skenes has been great in 2025, but has been hampered by his team’s lackluster offense. He is top 20 in the league in ERA, strikeouts, and WHIP.

Final Thoughts

Pittsburgh’s offense will look to keep it going this evening in the second game of their four-game set against the Milwaukee Brewers. Fortunately for the team, they have Skenes on the bump. The Pirates have some talent on their roster, but are in store for another summer of disappointment.
