It has been an exciting week for the Pittsburgh Pirates. With a 6-1 win earlier today against the Detroit Tigers, they capped off a three-game sweep against the Detroit Tigers. This sweep came on the heels of being swept in a three-game set against the Chicago White Sox. That was a historic turn of events.
The Pirates are the first team to be swept by a team with the worst record in a league and sweep a team with the best record in a league in consecutive series of 3+ games, in either order, since the Padres in 1980. Can the Pittsburgh Pirates keep it going?

The Pirates are in last place in the National League Central. Pittsburgh has been hampered by a terrible offense. They are 27th in batting average, 30th in home runs, and 30th in runs scored. With such a poor offense, it is no surprise that the Pittsburgh Pirates have had a disappointing season.
Pittsburgh’s pitching staff has been better. They are 12th in ERA, fourth in WHIP, and seventh in opposing batting average. Starting Pitcher Paul Skenes is putting together a Cy Young-caliber campaign. He is leading the league in ERA, ninth in strikeouts, fifth in WHIP, and leading the league in opposing batting average. His record, 5-8, has been hurt by a poor offense.
The Pittsburgh Pirates have a day off tomorrow before welcoming the Arizona Diamondbacks to town for a three-game set beginning on Friday. Even though the Pirates will not be returning to the postseason, they had a great series against one of the best teams in Major League Baseball.
