Carson Whisenhunt was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on October 20, 2000. He played high school baseball at David County High School in Mocksville, NC. He was the eighth-ranked LHP and the 36th-ranked overall player in North Carolina. At Davie County, he made 43 appearances, going 8-0 with a 0.09 ERA and 96 strikeouts in 50 innings. At the plate he hit .343 with a .495 OBP, he had 24 hits, four doubles, three home runs, 17 RBI, 17 runs scored, 13 stolen bases, and 20 walks. Whisenhunt was ranked the 105th LHP in the country and the 500th overall player. He committed to play college baseball at East Carolina University.

Where Did Carson Whisenhunt Go to College?

In his first season at East Carolina, he made one appearance before the season was cut short due to COVID, in that one start he didn’t record an out giving up three runs on one hit. In the summer, he played for High Point-Thomasville of the Coastal Plain League, making five appearances, going 2-1 with a 4.50 ERA and ten strikeouts in six innings. In 2021, he made 13 starts, going 6-2 with a 3.77 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 62 innings. In the summer, he played at Chatham in the Cape Cod Baseball League, making four starts, going 1-3 with a 7.88 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 16 innings.

Whisenhunt was the 18th-ranked college prospect entering the draft and the 30th overall prospect. He was taken in the second round by the San Francisco Giants.

2022

Whisenhunt debuted in the Giants system, playing for their rookie ball team. Then, in Single-A at San Jose, he made four appearances, with three coming as starts going 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 14 strikeouts in 7.2 innings. In the fall, he played for Scottsdale in the Arizona Fall League; he made three starts, going 0-1 with a 2.84 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 6.1 innings.

2023

Last season, he pitched across three levels at Single-A San Jose, High-A Eugene, and Double-A Richmond. Whisenhunt made 16 starts, going 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 58.2 innings. He also pitched in the Futures Game, going one inning, giving up one hit, and striking out two.

Future                                                                   

ITD ranks Whisenhunt as the 73rd overall prospect and the Giants third ranked prospect. He will likely start the season at Double-A with Richmond.
