Arias’ Professional Tenure

Roderick Arias made his professional debut in the summer of 2022 with the Dominican Summer League Yankees. His performance wasn’t quite what the Yankees expected—slugging .194/.379/.370 with a 33% strikeout rate. A wrist injury that sidelined Arias before the start of the season likely explains his drop in expected productivity. Despite his paltry batting average, Arias managed a respectable on-base and slugging percentage. Arias finished his first professional season with 21 hits, six doubles, two triples, three home runs, 11 RBIs, ten stolen bases, and 28 walks.

Arias debuted in the Florida Complex League last year, looking much more like the caliber of player Hal Steinbrenner had just given $4 million. Before another injury prematurely ended his season, Arias posted a solid slash line of .267/.423/.505, including 27 hits, two doubles, two triples, six home runs, 26 RBIs, 17 stolen bases, and 27 walks.

Future

Arias is ranked by ITD as the 92nd overall prospect entering 2024 and the Yankees third-ranked prospect. He is expected to start the season at Single-A.
