Following a peaceful protest in downtown Cleveland last Saturday over the killing of George Floyd, an unarmed African American man who died while in Minneapolis police custody on May 25, pockets of individuals turned destructive and damaged handfuls of local businesses.
As noted by television station WKYC, the Team Shop at Progressive Field, the home of the Cleveland Indians, was broken into and looted.
On Friday, Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams explained a group of five people attempted to break into the ballpark with a fire starter "and intentions to destroy" during Saturday's events. They've since been arrested.
Chief Williams: we have also just arrested 5 individuals who attempted to break into Progressive Field during the rioting. They also had fire starter and intentions to destroy. They were NOT from @CityofCleveland
