Potential Eugenio Suarez to Mets Trade Receives Update on Thursday

With the MLB Trade Deadline just a week away, there are plenty of teams around the league to keep an eye on as they aim for a push to finish the second half of the season strong.

One particular team to monitor is the New York Mets. Though they have gone through their fair share of ups and downs this season, they remain a top team in the majors. Furthermore, they are 0.5 games ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies for the NL East lead.

As New York looks to end the season strong and go on another deep playoff run, one name they have been linked to is Arizona Diamondbacks All-Star Eugenio Suarez. On Thursday, a new update regarding a potential Suarez-to-the-Mets trade surfaced.

Suarez, who just turned 34 years old on July 18, is one of the top trade candidates in the majors, and the Mets are reportedly interested. Furthermore, recent reports have surfaced that the Diamondbacks are scouting the Mets' Double-A team to scout prospects they may want in a potential deal for the two-time All-Star. However, despite these reports, trade talks between the Mets and Diamondbacks are not "hot" (h/t Andy Martino of SNY).

"The Arizona Diamondbacks have been scouting the Mets’ Double-A team for a potential deal for third baseman Eugenio Suarez, league sources say. That does not necessarily mean that talks between the teams are hot," Martino wrote.

This season, Suarez is hitting .252 at the plate with 36 home runs and an MLB-leading 86 RBIs. Despite his success, Arizona is 5.5 games behind the San Diego Padres for the third NL Wild Card spot.

With the trade deadline approaching, Suarez is a key name to keep an eye on as the Mets could be his next destination.
