Potential Jarren Duran to Padres Trade Receives Update on Tuesday

With the MLB trade deadline just a couple of days away, a lot of teams are expected to be busy in the market as they aim for a late push to finish the season strong. One of those teams might be the San Diego Padres, who own the third NL Wild Card spot and are just two games ahead of the Cincinnati Reds.

So far, the Padres have been the team most heavily linked to Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran. Recently, reports surfaced that suggested the Red Sox are no longer entertaining trade offers for the 28-year-old ( h/t Bob Nightengale of USA Today). However, a new update has surfaced on Tuesday that will be worth monitoring until Thursday.

Duran has been a crucial part of Boston's roster in recent years, making the team a bit hesitant to trade him. However, despite Nightengale's report, San Diego is still pursuing the Red Sox outfielder (h/t Dennis Lin of The Athletic).

“Meanwhile, despite reports that the Boston Red Sox had taken Jarren Duran off the market, San Diego continued to express interest in the longtime target," Lin wrote.

Just because the Padres are still interested in trading for Duran does not mean a trade is inevitable. Still, this is an interesting update nonetheless.

This season, Duran is batting .259 with an OPS of .767. Additionally, he has recorded nine home runs, 55 RBIs, and an AL-leading 12 triples. While he is not playing at as high a level as he did last year, when he finished eighth in AL MVP voting, Duran is still providing a lot of value. Whether he will continue to do so in Boston or San Diego remains to be seen.
