Rangers’ Bruce Bochy keeps it real amid Evan Carter’s struggles

The Texas Rangers are currently in second place in the American League West. However, the team has still faced some troubles this season. Especially rookie phenom Evan Carter who has struggled mightily at the plate. In a recent interview, manager Bruce Bochy got real about Carter’s season so far.

Carter is a rookie so it’s expected for him to struggle, despite looking like a monster late last season to help the Rangers secure the World Series. When asked about it, Bochy claimed he has no plans of sending Even Carter back down to the minors, per Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News. Instead, Bochy believes this is what Carter needs to develop his game further.

“He will be in left field and he will continue to get at-bats. I’m not going to talk about [considering a minor league assignment]. This is our club. We are a good club. And I don’t want anybody to think we’ve lost confidence. He’s trying to find his game right now. He’s a young kid in his first full year. Facing MLB pitching every day is not easy. He had tremendous success last year, but he’s going through things that he’s probably never experienced. He will be a better player for having gone through some failure.”

That’s probably the right approach considering Evan Carter has all of the potential in the world. The Rangers are a good team and there’s no reason to panic whatsoever. If anything, this is exactly what Carter needs to become a better player for the long haul. He’s just 21 years old and has a long career ahead.

Evan Carter’s career outlook with Rangers

When it comes down to it, Evan Carter has superstar potential. But he’s not there yet. It could take him a couple of years before getting the ball rolling, which is normal in baseball. We see it all the time when a prospect struggles early in their career just to figure it out and become the star the team believes they are.

That very well could be the case for Carter. The Rangers have a ton of talent around him, which will help his development. One area he has to improve though is hitting against left-handed batters. The worst case scenario would be for Evan Carter to be a platoon guy. He’d be a much more reliable option if he can at least challenge lefties at the plate.

This season, Carter is only hitting a .197 batting average, five home runs, and 15 RBIs. The talent is there but he just has to get over the hurdles he’s facing right now. We should expect to see Carter play for a long time with the Rangers. If he can reach his full potential then Evan Carter could be in for a huge pay day down the road. But he has to prove himself first.
