Rangers' Bruce Bochy Ties Hall of Famer for Sixth in All-Time Wins List

Bruce Bochy thought he was finished with Major League Baseball after the 2019 season. He had led the San Francisco Giants to three World Series wins and had grandchildren to help raise.

The Texas Rangers coaxed him out of retirement ahead of the 2023 season and Bochy led the organization to its first World Series that October. Thankfully for Rangers fans, he didn't immediately call it a career.

In fact, he's just kept winning.

On Wednesday, Bochy moved into a tie for sixth all-time among Major League Baseball managers with his 2,194 win as the Rangers beat the Colorado Rockies, 8-3. He joined Sparky Anderson just one spot off the top five.

Texas moved to 23-21 with the win, its fifth straight. Adolis Garcia's sixth home run of the season, a two-run shot, helped lead the charge while Patrick Corbin's reclamation journey continued on the mound. Corbin worked six innings, struck out nine batters and allowed three runs on just four hits.

Bochy began his managerial career with the San Diego Padres in 1995. The Padres won the National League West four times during his tenure, which lasted until 2006. They lost the 1998 World Series to the New York Yankess.

It was with the Giants where Bochy earned the biggest plaudits of his sure-to-be-Hall-of-Fame career. San Francisco went the playoffs four times from 2007 to 2019, winning the World Series in 2010, 2012 and 2014.

Anderson won three World Series in his 26-year managerial career. His teams finished with losing seasons just four times. He led the Cincinnati Reds to back-to-back World Series titles in 1975 and 1976 and he won his third with the Detroit Tigers in 1984. Anderson made the World Series two other times, in 1970, his first season as a manager, and in 1972.

Joe Torre is next on the managerial wins list with 2,326. Connie Mack leads all managers with 3,731 wins.
