Rodon, 29, went 14-8 with a 2.88 ERA in 31 starts with the San Francisco Giants.

The veteran ace had signed a two-year, $44 million deal with San Francisco after the conclusion of the lockout.

The deal included a player opt-out clause after the first year, which Rodon obviously exercised in order to become a free agent for the second consecutive year.

After multiple struggles with injuries, Rodon emerged as a frontline starter in his final season with the Chicago White Sox and repeated his success in what could prove to be his only season with the Giants.

But signing the veteran left-hander would give the Rangers a chance to contend for the first time in six years.

Despite signing Marcus Semien and Corey Seager last offseason, starting pitching remained a key weakness.

With an ace such as Rodon in their rotation, they could potentially put themselves in a position to compete for a spot in the postseason in 2023.
