The Texas Rangers are looking to return to the postseason in 2025 for the first time since their 2023 World Series run.
Texas currently owns a 61–59 record, and while the pitching staff has the best ERA in MLB, the run production has let them down, as the Rangers average just 4.1 runs per game—23rd in the league.
A large part of the team’s underperformance has been Adolis Garcia, who broke out in 2021 but has not been able to rediscover that form since. In 115 games for Texas, Garcia has a .226 batting average and a .660 OPS (a career low) while hitting just 16 home runs.
Garcia has especially struggled over the last month, playing in 23 games and batting .196 with a .577 OPS and just three total home runs.
Ahead of Tuesday’s game, the Rangers received news on Evan Carter, who was placed on the 10-day injured list in early August due to back spasms—his second stint with the same injury this year.
The team announced that Carter had been sent on a rehab assignment and would serve as the designated hitter before making his eventual return to the big-league roster.

-OF Evan Carter sent on injury rehab assignment to Frisco (AA).
Carter is expected to bat 2nd and serve as Frisco's designated hitter tonight vs. Midland at Riders Field (beg. 7:05 p.m. CT).
With Carter set to return to the Rangers this season, the outfield becomes crowded once he’s inserted back into the mix with Garcia, Wyatt Langford and Josh Smith.
Both Smith and Langford have been incredible for Texas this year, forcing the Rangers to make a decision on Garcia’s role moving forward. The team will have to decide how long they can continue to give the two-time All-Star extended opportunities without hindering their push to make the postseason.
Garcia’s previous excellence is the sole reason he has remained in the everyday lineup. The 32-year-old made his MLB debut in 2021, earned his first All-Star selection, and finished fourth in AL Rookie of the Year voting. In 2023, he received a second All-Star nod, won his first Gold Glove Award, and was named ALCS MVP on the way to a World Series championship.
