Jacob Latz is more than just a closer for the Texas Rangers; he is the team's "fireman," a relief pitcher built for any situation. Latz is currently sporting a 1.71 ERA. His 9.2 strikeouts per nine innings is the best of his career, and he has 18 saves in his first season as the team's "closer."
Latz was on fire for the month of June. Starting with his first save of the month (June 1) in a 2-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals and ending with his last save of the month (June 30) against the Cleveland Guardians, the left-handed pitcher closed out 11 games for the Rangers.
Texas took notice of the play of its closer and decided to recognize his accomplishments on social media. In a post on X, the franchise announced that Latz was named the Rangers Player of the Month for June. Texas posted a graphic showing his numbers for the month. Latz finished with 11 saves and 19 strikeouts, along with a 1.13 ERA and an impressive 0.63 WHIP.
Latz joins third baseman Josh Jung, who won for April, and infielder Ezequiel Duran, who won for May, as the team's monthly winners for 2026. The 2014 Illinois Player of the Year has pitched 11 scoreless innings over his last 12 outings and hasn't blown a save for Texas since May 13.
"Latzy locked it down all month ," the Rangers wrote on X. "Jacob Latz is your Rangers Player of the Month for June!"
