The Texas Rangers have their starter lined up for Sunday’s series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks, with Cal Quantrill getting the ball at Chase Field.

The right-hander will look to build on his latest outing after earning the win against the Seattle Mariners on Sept. 9. Quantrill allowed three earned runs over six innings in that start.

The Rangers announced Quantrill as their starter through their official PR account on X. He enters Sunday with an 8-5 record, a 2.89 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP across 102.2 innings this season. He has also recorded 77 strikeouts while allowing opponents to hit .219 against him.

This is an important start for Texas with the Rangers sitting at 73-76 and two games behind the Houston Astros in the AL West. They are also trying to stay in the American League Wild Card picture with the regular season nearing its end.

Quantrill will be opposed by Eduardo Rodriguez, who has been one of the better starters for Arizona this season. The left-hander is 15-5 with a 2.55 ERA and gives the Diamondbacks a tough matchup in the finale.

Arizona enters Sunday at 79-70 and remains firmly in the National League playoff race. The Diamondbacks are third in the NL West and are also chasing a Wild Card spot.

For Texas, getting length from Quantrill could be especially important after the bullpen handled considerable work in the previous game. Jacob Latz and Robert Garcia were among the Rangers’ relievers used in the late innings.

The Diamondbacks have also added Pavin Smith to their roster after recalling the first baseman and designated hitter from Triple-A Reno. Smith hit .301 with a .925 OPS in the minors before returning to the big leagues.

Sunday’s matchup gives both teams another important opportunity as they try to strengthen their postseason position.
