Rangers makes surprising Logan O’Hoppe decision after Angels trade

With the playoffs in sight, the Texas Rangers traded for Logan O’Hoppe from the Los Angeles Angels. Following the Angels’ trade, the Rangers have made a surprising decision with their new catcher, according to Rangers beat writer Evan Grant.

“O’Hoppe will be optioned to Round Rock for time being,” Grant wrote on X.

The move surprised Rangers fans, as they believed they were getting an upgrade at catcher. Currently, Austin Wynns is batting .098 with one home run and one RBI. But the Rangers are holding off on O’Hoppe.

The Rangers still have trade priorities to make after acquiring O’Hoppe. Chase Silseth was part of the O’Hoppe trade, but there is no indication of how they will use him. Ideally, they will be able to use their new catcher after he gets some time in Round Rock.

O’Hoppe dealt with injuries earlier this season. Since he returned, he has not been as good. O’Hoppe is batting .209 with four home runs, 23 RBIs, and 19 runs in 75 games. Additionally, he has just a .271 on-base percentage. This is a small step back from last season, when O’Hoppe hit .213 with 16 home runs, 43 RBIs, and 35 runs.
