Rangers Manager Reveals Josh Jung Injury Update on Saturday

The Texas Rangers haven't made the playoffs since they won the World Series in 2023, and that decline coincides with third baseman Josh Jung's adversity. The 6-foot-1, 214-pounder played just 46 games in 2024 due to a fractured wrist and logged just a .684 OPS across 131 games last season. He was optioned to Triple-A on July 3 and called back up on July 21.

Jung was an All-Star in 2023 and finished that season with a .781 OPS, 23 homers, and 70 RBIs over 122 contests. The former Texas Tech Red Raider also slashed .308/.329/.538 with three homers and eight RBIs over 17 postseason games.

The Rangers need Jung to play to that level again, but manager Skip Schumaker announced another setback on Saturday, via Dallas Morning News' Shawn McFarland.

"Josh Jung (adductor strain) and Justin Foscue (hamstring strain) will both be sidelined from baseball activities for about 10 days, per Skip Schumaker," he reported.

Josh Jung Must Justify Draft Status

Texas selected Jung No. 8 overall in the 2019 MLB Draft, and the club has not gotten enough value out of him so far. Save for that 2023 season, the San Antonio native has either been injured or unremarkable.

Jung's latest ailment might not keep him out for Opening Day, which isn't until March 26. However, the 28-year-old can ill-afford more setbacks as he tries to establish himself as an essential piece for the Rangers.

Jung is under team control through 2028, but that doesn't mean that Texas will automatically start him until then. He could be in trouble if fellow third baseman Cody Freeman takes a jump this season, as he played his first 36 MLB games in 2025 and slashed .336/.382/.549 with 19 homers and 71 RBIs over 97 Triple-A contests.

Meanwhile, Foscue is a 26-year-old first baseman who has 19 big-league games under his belt. The 5-foot-11, 205-pounder was removed from Monday's 6-0 spring training win over the Los Angeles Angels due to hamstring tightness, via MLB.com's Kennedi Landri.

Foscue notched an .815 OPS with 19 homers and 68 RBIs over 103 Triple-A games last season. The Rangers selected him No. 14 overall out of Mississippi State in the 2020 MLB Draft.

Up next for Texas is a spring training matchup with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday at 3:05 p.m. Et. After that, it will face the Seattle Mariners on Sunday and the Cleveland Guardians on Monday.
