Rangers reportedly 'showing interest' in free agent Marcus Semien

After finishing in last place in the AL West at 60-102 last season, the Texas Rangers are looking to make a splash in the offseason and may be focusing their interests on the middle infield.

Semien, who just finished his ninth MLB season, is coming off of a career-year in his first season with the Toronto Blue Jays. The 31-year-old played in all 162 games and led the majors in plate appearances with 724 in 2021, while also setting career-highs in home runs (45), runs batted in (102), steals (15), slugging percentage (.538) and total bases (351).

Semien was named an All-Star for the first time in 2021, and earned his first Gold Glove and Silver Slugger award as well.

Seager just finished his seventh MLB campaign -- all with the Los Angeles Dodgers -- and recorded 16 home runs, 57 runs batted in and a .306/.394/.521 slash line over 409 plate appearances in 95 games. Story just wrapped up his sixth MLB season -- all with the Colorado Rockies -- and had 24 home runs, 75 runs batted in, 20 stolen bases and a .251/.329/.471 slash line over 595 plate appearances in 142 games.

Seager and Story exclusively play shortstop, while Semien had spent the majority of his career at short heading into 2021, but with young star Bo Bichette already occupying the position for the Blue Jays, he shifted to second base for the most part this past season.
