Rays acquire 1B Mike Ford from Yankees

First baseman Mike Ford failed to reclaim his rookie form while with the New York Yankees. He was given a fresh start on Thursday when the Bronx Bombers announced they traded him to the Tampa Bay Rays for cash considerations and a player to be named later.

According to the Associated Press (h/t ESPN), the $100,000 associated with the transaction is payable July 1.

Ford hit .259 with 12 home runs and 25 RBI across 50 games during his debut season in 2019 but has since rarely flirted with matching that type of production. He batted .133 with three homers, five RBI and 23 strikeouts in 60 at-bats and 72 plate appearances during the current campaign. He was designated for assignment last weekend so the Yankees could activate relief pitcher Zack Britton from the injured list.

According to the official MLB website, Ford is reporting to Triple-A Durham following the trade.
