Recap: Dodgers Complete Sweep Of Reds With Blowout Win

The Los Angeles Dodgers completed a sweep of the Cincinnati Reds and extended their winning streak to a season-best seven games in the process.

With that, the Dodgers have now swept back-to-back series and went 7-2 on their homestand. Prior to the current stretch, their last seven-game winning streak was from April 26-May 3, 2025.

The Dodgers also have 11 consecutive wins against the Reds at Dodger Stadium, which includes the 2025 Wild Card Series. The streak dates back to May 17, 2024.

Freddie Freeman and Shohei Ohtani injuries

Despite manager Dave Roberts stating after Tuesday’s game that Shohei Ohtani would be back in the lineup for the series finale, he missed yet another contest due to multiple injuries.

Roberts shared that Ohtani had not “fully recovered” from feeling discomfort in his right arm after taking a swing on Monday night. The Dodgers hope to have Ohtani back on Friday but it’s possible he goes on the 15-day injured list as a two-way player.

Meanwhile, Freddie Freeman was out of the lineup for the second time in the last six games. Roberts revealed the veteran first baseman is dealing with right knee discomfort. It’s not yet clear if Freeman will be available for the start of the road trip, but Roberts said he should avoid the IL.

Offensive streaks

Mookie Betts and Teoscar Hernández again were at the center of the Dodgers’ offensive production.

Hernández extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a leadoff single in the second inning and the Dodgers went on to load the bases with nobody out. Though it only amounted to one run when Alex Freeland grounded into a double play.

Betts then pushed his on-base streak to 18 games with a two-run home run in the third inning.

Betts and Hernández received support in the fourth as the Dodgers exploded for six runs behind doubles from Kyle Tucker, Freeland and Enrique Hernández. Tucker previously had a single, giving him a multi-hit game for the first time since Aug. 19. Tucker then hit a home run in the eighth inning, though off Reds’ catcher Jose Trevino.

Teoscar Hernández contributed a two-run single in the fourth inning as well to give him a seventh game in a row with at least one RBI.

Dodgers’ magic number

The Dodgers magic number to clinch the National League West is now down to six. They also picked up a full game on the Atlanta Braves, who suffered another loss to the Tampa Bay Rays.

As a result, the Dodgers’ magic number for a top two seed in the NL is 14.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto ties career high

Yoshinobu Yamamoto limited the Reds to just one run over seven innings. Even for all his brilliance, Yamamoto wasn’t able to avoid Elly De La Cruz extending his streak to five games in a row with a home run.

Yamamoto tied a career high with 10 strikeouts, which he has now achieved eight times.
