The sixth week of the 2025 Minor League season saw several notable former first-round picks have successful weeks, including Royals prospect Jac Caglianone and Brewers infielder Brock Wilken. Additionally, Jordan Lawlar got his ticket back to Arizona.
It was eventually going to happen but Jordan Lawlar got the move back to Arizona. Lawlar had nothing to prove with Reno, as he hit .336 with six home runs and 13 stolen bases. He exits as the PCL’s current leader in hits (51).
Lawlar has an electric set of tools but now, the question will be how Arizona uses him on a deep MLB roster?
The Diamondbacks infielder was one of several notable prospects to get promoted over the last week. Cade Horton made his MLB debut with the Cubs this past weekend, while Matthew Lugo, who broke out last year in the Red Sox system, made his debut with the Angels.
Looking at other notable movers, the Marlins pushed 2024 seventh-round pick Nick Brink from Jupiter (A) to Beloit (A+). Brink was one of the nation’s best strikeout pitchers at Portland last year, as he finished sixth (130 K over 99 IP) in that category among DI pitchers.
Brink pitched well overall with the Hammerheads, as he punched out 31 over 24.2 IP. The right-hander can touch 96 MPH with well-above-average IVB (18.4”), along with a steep high-70s curveball.
As for the Mets, three notable names were promoted from St. Lucie (A) to Brooklyn (A+). Nate Dohm, a 2024 third-round pick, was promoted to the Cyclones along with flamethrowing reliever Raimon Gomez — who recorded the hardest-thrown pitch in the Minors this season at 104.5 MPH — and Matt Allan.
It’ll be Allan’s second tour of duty with the Cyclones, as he pitched for the team in 2019 when it was a short-season affiliate. Allan, who missed the last five seasons before returning in 2025, struck out 17 over 15 frames with St. Lucie.
Twins outfield prospect Carson McCusker didn’t get drafted out of OK State despite doing so in 2017 as a high schooler. However, four years after he left the Cowboys, McCusker continues to rise in the Twins’ system.
The 6’8” outfielder hit three home runs and five extra-base hits over the last week to raise his slash line to .333/.400/.658 (1.058 OPS) with 10 home runs over 33 games with St. Paul (AAA).
Moving to the PCL, Harry Ford and Cole Young didn’t put up impressive numbers in April. But over the last week, that’s changed. Ford batted .538 with seven hits over four games, while Young picked up three walks and 10 hits over six games.
Meanwhile, in Memphis, Thomas Saggese continues to produce after his demotion back to the Minors. Saggese, who hit .341 with the Cardinals, slashed .353/.500/.765 (1.265 OPS) with two home runs and three extra-base hits over the last five games.
Alan Roden, demoted in early May, picked up 10 hits, including a home run, over his first four games with Buffalo (AAA).
Noah Cameron pitched exceptionally well as an injury replacement with the Royals on April 30. Since then, the lefty’s been highly effective, as Cameron struck out 11 over 10.1 IP with Omaha.
Lastly, Jake Burger went 9-23 (.391) with two home runs over six games after getting moved down to Triple-A. Burger was promoted back to the Rangers on May 12.
Guardians infielder Travis Bazzana had himself a strong week. Bazzana, who’s walked 15 times over 31 games in Akron (AA), batted .333 (8-24) with a home run and three extra-base hits over the last week.
Jac Caglianone, also taken in the first round last July, notched three home runs and 10 RBI over the last six games. Caglianone is one home run shy (9) of passing Jose Ramos for the Texas League home run lead.
And in the Southern League, 2023 first-round Brock Wilken cracked three home runs to tie Ethan Workinger for the circuit’s home run lead (8).
