Three weeks ago, the Tampa Bay Rays designed Hunter Renfroe for assignment to clear room on their 40-man roster. The outfielder has now found a new home in the American League East.
The Boston Red Sox announced Monday that they've signed Renfroe to a one-year deal. There is no word on the price tag.

Renfroe had a rather down year at the plate during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. The right fielder hit .156 with eight home runs and 22 RBI. Prior to 2020, Renfroe spent four seasons with the San Diego Padres, where he hit .235 with 89 home runs and 204 RBIs in 390 games.
Boston's outfield will look a little different in 2021. While the Red Sox are interested in retaining Jackie Bradley Jr., they're facing some pretty tough competition from teams around Major League Baseball. With Renfroe on board, the Red Sox are set to boast an outfield with some combination of the former Rays slugger, J.D. Martinez, Andrew Benintendi and Alex Verdugo.
The Red Sox have been linked to a number of free agents this offseason, including J.A. Happ, Trevor Bauer, George Springer, Rich Hill and Jake Odorizzi.
