Ahead of the Boston Red Sox's second game against the Toronto Blue Jays, the team announced three roster moves on Twitter/X, all involving pitchers. Boston shifted around three pitchers on the injured lists, including activating one to make his 2025 debut with the team.
The Red Sox reinstated left-handed pitcher Chris Murphy from the 60-day injured list, as he replaces right-handed pitcher Luis Guerrero, as Guerrero lands on the 15-day injured list.

Boston also transferred right-handed pitcher Justin Slaten to the 60-day injured list, rounding out the team's roster moves before the second game of their series against the Blue Jays.
Guerrero, in his 2025 stint with the Red Sox, pitched in 13 games and went 17.1 innings. He struck out 10 batters, walked 14, and had an ERA of 4.15. While he walked batters often, opposing hitters hit just .158 off him.
Meanwhile, the player replacing him on the active roster is Murphy, getting his first chance in the Major Leagues in 2025. In 2024 with the Red Sox, Murphy pitched in five preseason games to the tune of a 3.86 ERA.
Murphy missed the entire 2024 season and half the 2025 season due to having Tommy John surgery after suffering ligament damage in the preseason. In his only previous season, 2023, Murphy had a 4.91 ERA in 20 games pitched out of the bullpen.
Slaten, on the other hand, is going on the 60-day injured list to open a 40-man roster spot for Murphy. He was placed on the injured list with right shoulder inflammation at the beginning of June, and is now likely to miss the next month of baseball.
Before his shoulder issue, the righty had a 3.47 ERA in 24 games with a 0.90 WHIP and 16 strikeouts. He was even more impressive in 2024, as he had a 2.93 ERA in 44 games, striking out 58 batters in 55.1 innings of work.
The three moves the Red Sox made, putting Slaten on the 60-day injured list, putting Guerrero on the 15-day injured list, and reinstating Murphy from the 60-day injured list, all come as the team is in the middle of a six-game losing skid.
