The Boston Red Sox have had an interesting season in 2025, but after a win on Saturday, they sit at .500 with eight games until the All-Star break.

The Red Sox beat the Washington Nationals 10-3 on Saturday to win the series and play Sunday afternoon for the potential sweep.

But, Boston's win on Saturday didn't just get them back to .500 on the season, it was the Red Sox's 10,000th win in franchise history. A feat accomplished by just five teams in the MLB.

The Red Sox won their first ever game on May 8, 1901, when they were known as the "Boston Americans," according to WABI5. Now, 124 years, one month and 27 days later, Boston has reached 10,000 wins. Ironically, it comes one day after America celebrated its independence.

The Red Sox become only the second team in the American League to accomplish the feat, joining the New York Yankees. The two teams have a long-history and rivalry and now sit together in this elite company.

The other three teams that have accomplished 10,000 wins all come from the National League. The Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals round out the five teams who have reached 10,000 franchise wins.

The Red Sox joined the MLB in 1901, and played as the 'Boston Americans' until 1908 when they became the Boston Red Sox. The name came from the socks the players were wearing.

The American newspaper editor at the time, John I Taylor, was also a part-owner of the team. He saw teams wearing red stockings during spring training in 1907 and decided to give the team the nickname "Red Stockings." People began calling them "the Red Sox," and the name stuck, according to sportsteamhistory.com.

The Boston Americans won their first World Series in 1903, and the Red Sox have won seven more since, with the latest coming in 2018. Now, the Red Sox have become the fifth team in the MLB to reach 10,000 franchise wins.

The Red Sox will finish their weekend set with the Nationals Sunday afternoon, going for win No. 10,001.
