Red Sox Boss Seemingly Admits Mistake in Rafael Devers Trade

The Boston Red Sox put Craig Breslow in charge, a decision that hasn't seemed to be the right one so far. While the Red Sox are well-suited for the future if things go as planned, they must understand that Breslow will take the heat for every situation that unfolds in the next few years, as he's the CBO.

He made his first massive mistake when he dealt Rafael Devers in a trade to the San Francisco Giants for a below-average package. Moving on from Devers is one thing, and something that he shouldn’t have done, but the fact that he traded him for the return he did simply made no sense.

Twenty months into his term, Breslow recently spoke with the Boston Globe about how he thinks he's done. Fortunately, he admitted that he has his own things that he needs to work on.

“This is not the outcome that we had expected, and it’s forced me to reflect on the interactions that I’ve had, not just with Raffy, but with other players, and opportunities to communicate differently,” said Breslow. “I need to own things that I could have done better.”

It's unfortunate that he had to trade a player of Devers' caliber to even consider looking in the mirror for once, but if this will work out for things in the future, perhaps it's the best thing that could’ve happened to the Red Sox.

Breslow, frankly, shouldn't be in the players' business. He has managers and others around the organization to worry about that for him. He needs to have a good relationship with them, but outside of making trades and trying to do other things, it isn't his job to make everybody happy.

For Devers, however, his decisions, mainly signing Alex Bregman, had a massive impact on how his former team's star felt.
