The Boston Red Sox made another roster cut on Saturday as the regular season approaches.

Boston will send relief pitcher Yovanny Cruz to the team's minor league camp, which will trim the Red Sox spring training roster down to 56 players.  Cruz allowed three runs in both of his relief appearances during spring training.

While Cruz didn't pan out this time around, he was the 16th-ranked MLB prospect by MLB.com  in 2020 when he was with the Chicago Cubs organization.

According to Baseball America, Cruz has eclipsed 100 mph before, which he did in 2024 with a 101.3 mph clip for the 19th-hardest fastball in the minor leagues.

In six minor league seasons, Cruz has a 3.63 ERA, 216 strikeouts, and an 11-9 record. Cruz has been in farm systems with the Cubs and San Diego Padres before the Red Sox signed him in January to a minor league contract and spring training invite.

Boston has 30 more cuts to make before Opening Day, and the Red Sox have made seven cuts already. That includes pitchers Brian Van Belle, Jacob Webb, Jovani Martin, Robert Stock, and Luis Perales.

The Red Sox sent all of the aforementioned pitchers to the minor league camp, and Boston did the same with outfielder Jhostynxon Garcia.
