Red Sox Fan Expresses Frustration Over Trevor Story Situation
James A. Pittman-USA TODAY Sports

Though it seems trivial that in the wake of the Carlos Correa situation any fanbase can be more frustrated than that of the New York Mets, Boston Red Sox fans have their own depressing tale to tell.

This afternoon, it was revealed that shortstop Trevor Story had undergone Tommy John surgery on his right elbow.

According to Bob Nightengale, the slugger knew he would need elbow surgery at some point, but believed that he could recover with rest.

Story underwent the surgery on Monday.

On Twitter, a Red Sox fan expressed frustration with Story over his decision to wait to have surgery until now, and that unless he recently injured himself, surgery is something that should have been done months ago.

Ultimately, the entire fanbase of the Red Sox and the City of Boston are feeling the same frustration.

While Boston has made some impactful moves, signing Justin Turner, Corey Kluber, Masataka Yoshida, and Kenley Jansen, they’ve been hit with some misfortune this offseason.

They were outbid on three key free agents and failed to re-sign Xander Bogaerts.

Fortunately, they had Story ready to fill the void at shortstop.

Unfortunately, they’ll need to find somebody else to fill the role until the two-time All-Star returns.

Granted, it won’t take quite as long for Story to recover as it might take a pitcher, but it’s still a huge blow to the Red Sox, who already are dealing with some question marks entering the season.

We could see Boston attempt to make a trade to find a short-term solution.
