The Boston Red Sox haven't played well this season, but it's important to remember that the team has been derailed by some injuries. While the Red Sox certainly aren't the most injured team in baseball, they've been without Masataka Yoshida and Alex Bregman, among others, for a significant portion of the campaign.
Yoshida has yet to play in a game during the 2025 campaign, but it looks like he could be returning sometime in the near future.
According to a recent report, the left-handed hitting outfielder made a rehab start in Triple-A on Tuesday. Yoshida is expected to DH, and hopefully, play the outfield eventually.
"Masataka Yoshida will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday. Cora said Yoshida is expected to serve as the DH in his first two rehab games, then play the outfield." MassLive.com's Christopher Smith shared.
Yoshida has been dealing with a shoulder injury throughout the past few months, a somewhat concerning sign. While shoulder injuries are tricky, the hope was for him to at least return to the Red Sox's lineup in the near future.
Instead, he hasn't been available, and it's a factor in why Boston hasn't played the way it was hoping to.
With the question marks already in the Red Sox's lineup, this further complicates things. However, adding a hitter who has a 112 OPS+ throughout his first two big league seasons would be a step in the right direction to turn things around.
While it might make things more challenging to figure out, Yoshida is good, and the Red Sox could use them.
