The Boston Red Sox will begin the 2022 regular season without their ace Chris Sale, who is dealing with a rib injury.

There is no timetable for his return at the moment.

With Sale out, Boston will have to rely heavily on Nathan Eovaldi, Nick Pivetta, James Paxton, and Michael Wacha to give them some key innings until their embattled ace returns from his injury.

In the meantime, however, there is a bit of good news about Sale for Red Sox fans.

Red Sox insider Chris Cotillo tweeted that Sale says he is doing much better and will begin throwing early next week.

Progress For Sale

Sale appears to be in good spirits right now, as Cotillo notes.

Cotillo also mentioned that there is still no timetable for Sale’s eventual return, but the good news for Red Sox fans is that he will begin throwing again soon.

Boston is looking solid heading into the 2022 regular season.

They managed to sign Trevor Story to beef up the lineup a little bit and make up for the loss of Kyle Schwarber.

They did also begin the 2021 season without Sale, who at the time was rehabbing from Tommy John surgery, and Boston got off to a pretty solid start, boasting the second-best record in the American League by the end of April.

How long Sale is out will play a huge role in Boston’s rotation plans.

If he misses significant time, perhaps there will be a need to add another starter via trade.

But if Sale can come back in plenty of time and not miss a significant portion of the regular season, the Red Sox should be fine when he returns.
