Red Sox Make Bullpen Decision After 13-Inning Affair

The Boston Red Sox incredible run kept rolling in dramatic fashion on Thursday night, when the club pulled off a come-from-behind win to sweep the Chicago White Sox in 13 innings.

The back-and-forth affair saw the Red Sox come from four runs down and tie the game on five separate occasions before finally taking their first lead of the game on the deciding run. To do so, the club used every available arm in the bullpen after starter Ranger Suarez was only able to provide three innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on 70 pitches in his third outing since coming off the IL.

After the game, manager Chad Tracy told the media that if the game had continued for another inning, they were likely looking at one more frame for Bryan Bello before they had to turn to a position player on the mound given the state of the bullpen.

Now a day later, they are facing the consequences of such a taxing affair. Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports that the Red Sox have optioned right-handed reliever Greg Weissert to Triple-A to call up left-handed long relief option Raymond Burgos.
