Red Sox Place Rising Fan Favorite On Injured List, Call Up Speedster
Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

A slew of roster moves were announced by the Boston Red Sox on Monday, sizably shaking up the roster ahead of a crucial series against the Houston Astros.

The roster updates were mostly overshadowed by top prospect Cedanne Rafaela being called up to the majors, however, MLB.com's Ian Browne followed up Monday afternoon with another worthwhile update.

"In addition, David Hamilton is being recalled. Pablo Reyes to the injured list. Wilyer Abreu to paternity list."

Reyes is hitting .303 with nine extra-base hits including two home runs, 18 RBIs and a .748 OPS in 51 games for the Red Sox this season.

The infielder memorably hit his first walk-off grand slam against the Kansas City Royals earlier this month, getting his foot in the door of the elusive fan-favorite club. The underdog slugger has produced since coming to Boston and garnered serious fanfare as of late.

Hamilton was recalled out of necessity of Reyes' absence but will provide speed on the basepath. This season, he's hitting .138 with two extra-base hits and a .472 OPS in 13 games for Boston.

As for Reyes, he exited the finale of the Los Angeles Dodgers' series at Fenway on Sunday with elbow pain after being hit by a pitch. His timeline for return is unknown.
