Red Sox reportedly among teams interested in Rangers right-hander Kyle Gibson

The Boston Red Sox are in the market for a starting pitcher.

After losing out on Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer, who was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers, Red Sox president of baseball operations Chaim Bloom has his eyes on an American League West pitcher.

According to MLB Network's Jon Morosi, the Red Sox are among teams interested in Texas Rangers right-hander Kyle Gibson.

Morosi also reports that the San Diego Padres are considering Gibson if they don't acquire Jose Berrios from the Minnesota Twins. The Red Sox have also expressed interest in Berrios.

The Red Sox, who are first in the AL East with a 63-41 record, could use another pitcher. That became abundantly clear after Boston fell to the Toronto Blue Jays 13-1 on Thursday night.

The BoSox have been rotating Nathan Eovaldi, Eduardo Rodriguez, Garrett Richards, Nick Pivetta and Martin Perez this season. With Chris Sale expected to return next month, the Red Sox could be genuine World Series contenders if they add another arm.

Gibson has been one of the Rangers' best pitchers this season. The 33-year-old is 6-3 with a 2.87 ERA, 1.177 WHIP and 94 strikeouts in 113 innings.

If Gibson were to join the Red Sox, he could be third in the team's rotation behind Sale and Eovaldi. That would likely push Richards out of the rotation.
