The Boston Red Sox have some of the best young talent in the league. They are looking to play some of their more capable rookies this season.
Boston already tested the waters with rookie Kristian Campbell playing second base. This was a position that was completely freed up after Alex Bregman became the full-time third baseman. While several veterans struggled in the season-opening series versus the Texas Rangers, Campbell was one of the better batters.
The Red Sox still have infielder Marcelo Mayer and outfielder Roman Anthony to make their season debut at the professional level. Mayer has some ways to go before his debut. Anthony, on the other hand, could be upgraded to the regular season roster soon.
Some development needs to be done before Anthony can be contributing player to the Red Sox. That is why the team is looking to position him for the long run.
Audacy's Matthew Haag reports that Boston's Triple-A team, the Worcester Red Sox, and its manager Chad Tracy will have Anthony play more leftfielder while having a few reps at centerfielder and right fielder.
Woo Sox manager Chad Tracy said that Roman Anthony will spend the majority of his time in LF this year, while still seeing some CF and RF (via 310 to Left).

During Spring Training camp, Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that he sees Anthony more as a leftfielder or centerfielder. This is significant considering Wilyer Abreu has the right fielder position locked. There are long-term questions on Jarren Duran's future after just agreeing to a deal right as they avoided arbitration.
Anthony had a breakout season in Double-A & Triple-A last year. In 35 Triple-A games, he accumulated 33 runs, 45 hits, 20 RBIs, 31 strikeouts, a batting of .344, an on-base percentage of .463, and a slugging percentage of .519.
After spending more time with the "WooSox," Anthony could make his professional league appearance within the first half of the season.
