The Boston Red Sox are back in the news, trying to finalize their roster before Spring Training games get underway. As a result, Boston have signed 39-year-old Adam Ottavino to a minor league contract, which includes a non-roster invite to Spring Training, per MLB Network's Jon Heyman.

Ottavino spent the last three seasons with the New York Mets and logged 56 innings of work in 2024 with New York but did not play during the team's playoff run.
The right-hander, known for his funky delivery that can deceive hitters, previously had a stint with Boston in 2021. In 62 innings with the Red Sox, he posted a 4.21 ERA and 71 strikeouts.
He will join 21 other players to whom the Red Sox extended non-roster invites to Spring Training. He will likely compete for a reserve role when the season begins. His best years are behind him, but Adam Ottavino was a successful reliever for the Colorado Rockies, where Coors Field is one of the hardest parks to pitch in.
In seven seasons with the Rockies, Ottavino posted a 3.41 ERA and 452 strikeouts over 390.2 innings.
Ottavino features a lot of movement in his pitches and can keep hitters off-balance with his wicked slider, which slides way off the plate, along with a two-seam fastball that runs into right-handers. His Achilles' heel throughout his career has been command.
