Red Sox Starter Makes Unfortunate History in Loss Against Braves

It wasn't a pretty Sunday afternoon for the Boston Red Sox, who lost to the Atlanta Braves, 10-4.

The Red Sox haven't played great baseball in recent weeks, losing another series to a team that's very beatable. The Red Sox will stay in town for their series against the New York Mets before taking on the Baltimore Orioles.

Things won't get much easier.

The Mets, one of the better teams in baseball, will bring Boston some challenges.

Despite the Orioles struggling a bit to start the season, it's unfair to say that a division opponent will be an easy matchup for a team that's 4-6 in their last 10 games.

However, Sunday was the worst outcome for more reasons than one. Not only did the Red Sox have an opportunity to bounce back and get on the right track before their series against the Mets, but Brayan Bello, the Red Sox starter, made unfortunate history.

According to Underdogs Jay Hay Kid, Bello is the first Red Sox starter to post the stats he did on Sunday since 1986.

“Brayan Bello is the first Red Sox starter to allow 10+ hits and 5+ BB in a start of fewer than 5 IP since Oil Can Boyd on June 23, 1986,” he wrote.

When Bello was removed from the game after 4.1 innings, there wasn't much the Red Sox could do. They were lucky that Sean Newcomb was able to eat 4.2 innings, and they didn't have to waste any of their bullpen.

Regardless, this was a very unfortunate start for Bello, who has thrown the baseball at a decent level in the early stages of the season. Dealing with a few injuries, he had a 2.33 ERA before entering this game.

Hopefully, it was just a rough start for the right-hander.
