Red Sox Stun MLB, Trade Rafael Devers to Giants

After some rumors over the past few months surrounding Rafael Devers, the Boston Red Sox have seemingly made a decision.

According to insider Robert Murray, the Red Sox have actually cut ties with the left-handed slugger. They're moving him in a deal to the San Francisco Giants for Jordan Hicks, Kyle Harrison, and more.

"The San Francisco Giants are acquiring Rafael Devers from the Boston Red Sox for Jordan Hicks, Kyle Harrison and more, according to sources familiar with the deal," he wrote.

Depending on what else the Red Sox are getting in return, perhaps it'll make a bit more sense.

However, the Red Sox, a team that has started to play better, didn't have much of a reason to move on from Devers unless he asked for it.

Some have suggested in recent months that he could ask for a trade, but considering he was hitting .271 with 15 home runs, and had been playing well for the Red Sox and didn't seem too unhappy recently, this comes as a huge surprise.

The Giants have a below-average farm system, so unless the Red Sox gutted it, Boston isn't likely to get much in return here.

It's a strange situation for the Red Sox to be in, but clearly, the front office believed it was time to move on.

Perhaps they wanted to go with younger options right now, which makes some sense.

Whatever the reason may be, which should become clear over the next few days, Devers is now in San Francisco, and the Red Sox will be without one of the best players in Major League Baseball for the foreseeable future.
