The Boston Red Sox overcame adversity against the New York Mets on Tuesday, winning 2-0 despite manager Alex Cora and starting pitcher Walker Buehler getting ejected in the third inning. Catcher Carlos Narváez and star designated hitter Rafael Devers each hit solo homers off of Mets' starting pitcher Clay Holmes, and that was enough to secure the victory.
Buehler was tossed after arguing balls and strikes, and Cora suffered the same fate after coming out of the dugout to defend his player. Relievers Brennan Bernardino, Garrett Whitlock, Justin Wilson, Greg Weissert, Justin Slaten, and Aroldis Chapman followed up in that order, all combining for the shutout. The latter hurler got his eighth save of the season.
Cora sounded off on the ejections after the game, via WEEI's Tom Carroll.
"It was weird, they [Buehler and home plate umpire Mike Estabrook] were going back and forth," he said. "I don't know what the exchange was, but I've been doing this for a few years now...Give me a break. I'll go out and you can throw me out, and we keep the pitcher in the game. I guess he had enough, I don't know why."
"I thought yesterday was a good day for us without me, so I decided to do it again," he joked.

Cora missed Monday's 3-1 win over the Mets to attend his daughter's college graduation.
New York has now lost three straight games and is 4-6 in their last 10. The team will play one more contest against Boston on Wednesday before hosting the Los Angeles Dodgers.
