Report: Blue Jays prospect T.J. Brock underwent Tommy John surgery

It’s a sizable blow for the Blue Jays, as Brock looked like a good in-house option as depth for the bullpen for next season and beyond. The 25-year-old righty rears back to average upper-90s on his fastball while also featuring one of the best sliders in the organization.

Drafted in the sixth round of the 2022 draft, Brock made his professional debut in 2022, mainly pitching for the High-A Vancouver where he had a 5.56 ERA and a 3.13 FIP in 11.1 innings pitched, with an impressive 37.7 K%.

Brock’s first full season in professional baseball came in 2023, splitting his time between High-A and Double-A with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Between the two levels, Brock finished with a 4.78 ERA and a 3.76 FIP, striking out 37.3% of batters while his BB% dropped to 9.9%.

Unfortunately, Brock missed most of the 2024 season due to injury. When healthy, he posted a 0.79 ERA and a 2.06 FIP in 11.1 innings pitched. Most of those innings came with the Fisher Cats, where he had a 1.29 ERA and a 2.38 FIP in seven innings pitched, with a 45.2 K% and a 19.4 BB%.

Brock was sent to the Arizona Fall League, where he didn’t give up an earned run in seven innings pitched while posting a 42.3 K% and an 11.5 BB% as the Scottsdale Scorpions fell in the semifinals.

There have been plenty of Blue Jays pitching prospects who’ve had Tommy John surgery this past year. That includes their top pitching prospect, Ricky Tiedemann, who had the surgery in late July. Moreover, Brandon Barriera and Landen Maroudis also received the surgery, as did big league pitcher Alek Manoah. Overall, nine different pitchers in the organization have undergone the surgery in the past year, a worrisome trend to say the least.

Hopefully, Brock’s rehab goes well and he comes back better than ever in 2026.
